Shogi Background:

Shogi, often referred to as Japanese chess, has its roots in ancient Indian chess (Chaturanga) and was introduced to Japan around the 8th century via China. The game evolved over the centuries, incorporating unique elements such as the ability to drop captured pieces back onto the board, which adds a distinctive strategic layer. By the Edo period (17th to 19th centuries), Shogi had gained widespread popularity in Japan, becoming a celebrated pastime and leading to the establishment of professional Shogi players and tournaments

Daggered Shogi - Traditionally, Japanese calligraphy “Kanji” is used to mark the pieces for Shogi.  Many Non-Japanese, Non-Chinese not able to familiarize this superb strategic  game. Our design of Shogi pieces would enable visual understanding of each shogi piece and its movements during the game play. All Standard Shogi rules apply.  Players familiar with Chess basics quickly adopts this game.

Shogi is enjoyed by over 20 million people in Japan, taught in schools, enhancing mental skills. Game objective is to check mate the King. Opposing armies not in different colours, but orientation on the board.  Each piece always 
points towards the opponent

Most Interesting characteristic is the ability to capture an opponents piece, use it as ones own by dropping it anywhere 
on the board (with logical conditions). This vastly increases the strategic possibilities. Only in 2017 that computer shogi programs were shown to be stronger than best humans
